Lyrics:

I'm a preacher's son
Raised in the pew
Church camps and choirs
All that I knew
I tried to serve
To walk the line
To be a good man
But failed each time

I'm sorry for lies
And the masks we wore
For pride and greed
And wanting more
For buildings tall
And salaries high
While the poor were left to cry

I'm sorry for programs
And politics too
For control and abuse
We let slip through
For all the neglect
And the games we played
For the truth we bent
And the price we paid

I'm sorry for those we hurt and judged
For hearts we hardened and souls we nudged
For those we ignored, rejected, used
For the ones we left confused

I'm sorry for money
We spent on self
For hiding truth
On a dusty shelf
For saying one thing
Doing another
For failing to love
Each sister and brother

I'm sorry for making you feel unclean
Like God's love was earned, not seen
Like grace was ours to give or deny
Like you had to climb to reach the sky

I'm sorry for rules
We made you obey
For judging your clothes, your walk, your way
For saying come as you are
Then frown
For lifting ourselves
And tearing you down

I'm sorry for boxes we made you fit
For the mold we cast in the shame of it
For making you feel you had to pretend
That broken hearts weren't ours to mend

I'm sorry for saying you had to be whole
To hide your wounds, to guard your soul
For making you feel you couldn't be true
That God wouldn't love the real you

We're sorry, Lord
For what we've done
For turning away from your only Son
We built our kingdoms
We lost your face
We traded truth
For empty grace
But now we kneel
No pride, no show
We want the real You
And the world to know

I'm sorry for all
We've done and said
For the living faith
We left for dead
But now I see
And now I cry
Forgive us, Lord
We won't deny
We're sorry, Lord
For what we've done
For turning away from your only Son
We built our kingdoms
We lost your face
We traded truth
For empty grace
But now we kneel
No pride, no show
We want the real You
And the world to know
